COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's volleyball received an early-season wake-up call as the visiting L.A. Pierce Brahmas came into the Peterson Gym and stormed past the Pirates in a three-game sweep, 25-23, 25-17, 25-16.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- Early leads were easy to come by for the Orange Coast College softball team on Friday against Chaffey. It was the late leads that proved elusive as the host Panthers rallied to win both games, 9-8 and 10-5 in a nonconference doubleheader.

Football: Five Pirates move on to four-year schools
 
COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College head football coach Mike Taylor has announced that five former Pirates have made the decision to move on to four-year schools. Those five OCC standouts include offensive linemen Jon Roche (Aliso Niguel HS), Alec Davis (Mission Viejo HS) and Kyle Donaldson (Pacifica HS) as well as quarterback Alex Cappellini (Pinnacle HS) and defensive back Derrick Romo (Huntington Beach HS).

Longtime Pirates coaching legend loses fight with cancer
 
COSTA MESA – Don Watson, longtime swimming and water polo coach, who helped lead the Pirates to 19 state championships over his 30-year career at Orange Coast College, passed away Monday evening following a nine-year bout with stomach cancer. He was 59.

COSTA MESA -- Down by 22 points with just under 12 minutes left in the game, the Orange Coast College women's basketball team refused to quit and pushed College of the Canyons to the edge of a monumental collapse.
